Geographic mitigation areas would continue to be implemented offshore of California. Additional mitigation areas have been added based on analysis of new Biologically Important Areas including:

  • The California Real-time Notification Large Whale Mitigation Area; 
  • The California Large Whale Awareness Messages; 
  • The Southern California Blue Whale Mitigation Area; 
  • The Northern and Central California Large Whale Mitigation Areas; and the
  • The San Nicolas Island Pinniped Haulout Mitigation Area.
