The participation of Indian Tribes, Native Hawaiian Organizations, and the public is an important part of the National Historic Preservation Act Section 106 process. The Navy encourages all to share information and concerns regarding historic properties by providing a written comment via the project website or by mail during the scoping process.

National Historic Preservation Act Section 106 Review Process

 

  • A law that requires federal agencies to consider the potential effects of their actions on historic properties and look for ways to avoid, minimize, or mitigate them.

  • Public involvement is an important part of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) Section 106 process.

The public scoping effort supports the NHPA Section 106 consultation by offering the public the opportunity to provide input on potential historic properties or effects on historic properties.
