The Navy reduces the environmental footprint of ships and submarines by implementing and continuously improving efforts, such as:
- Consolidation of plastic waste into disks and disposal when ships return to port.
- Conservation of energy through energy efficient technologies.
- Management of ballast water to prevent the introduction of non-native species.
