Littoral Combat Ship East Coast Homeporting Draft EA Available for Public Review: U.S. Navy Invites Public Comment

The U.S. Navy has prepared and released to the public a Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) to evaluate the potential environmental effects that may result from homeporting up to 14 Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) on the East Coast of the United States by 2020. The EA evaluates the potential environmental effects of homeporting 14 LCSs at either Naval Station Norfolk, Va., or 14 LCSs at Naval Station Mayport, Fla. Although no final decision has yet been made, the Navy's preferred alternative is to homeport the initial East Coast Littoral Combat Ships at Naval Station Mayport.

Federal Register Publishes Proposed Rules for Navy's East Coast, Gulf of Mexico, Southern California and Hawaii Area Training & Testing

Today the Federal Register published the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) proposed rules for Navy activities in the Atlantic Fleet Training and Testing (AFTT) and Hawaii-Southern California Training and Testing (HSTT) areas.

Public Meetings in the Marianas Draw Interest in Navy Environmental Assessment

Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Pacific and U.S. Commander Pacific Fleet (PACFLT) hosted public meetings on Guam and Saipan Jan. 15 and Jan. 17 to discuss the Navy's Draft Environmental Assessment/Overseas Environmental Assessment (EA/OEA) for the Mariana Islands Range Complex (MIRC).

Update to the 2012 Guam and CNMI Relocation Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement

In May 2012, Department of Defense announced that because of the adjustments to the 2006 Realignment Roadmap Agreement relocating U.S. Marine Corps forces from Okinawa, Japan to Guam, the Department of the Navy (the Navy) was expanding the Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) for the live-fire training range complex (LFTRC) on Guam to include an assessment of changes to the number and composition of Marines relocating to Guam.

NEPA Planning for Guam Realignment Roadmap Adjustment

The Department of Defense, in a joint statement with the Government of Japan announced April 26 that they have agreed to adjustments in the 2006 Realignment Roadmap Agreement to relocate U.S. Marine Corps forces from Okinawa, Japan to Guam.
