NOTU Cape Railhead EA Home

Welcome to the United States (U.S.) Department of the Navy's webpage for the P110 Railhead Transfer Facility Environmental Assessment (EA).

The Navy is proposing to construct and operate a new motor transfer facility with associated railway and road infrastructure at National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. The Proposed Action evaluated in the EA includes an open-air metal roof structure over a reinforced concrete foundation; a paved laydown/parking area; a new access road and parallel railroad spur with turnouts connecting the facility to existing road and rail lines nearby; and renovation/replacement of portions of existing railroad track located between Schwartz Road and NASA Parkway on KSC property.

Beginning in early 2030, the completed transfer facility and connecting road/rail infrastructure would provide logistics support for the Navy mission by facilitating receipt of motors and component shipments via rail and transfer to vehicles for final delivery to the nearby Naval Ordnance Test Unit (NOTU) located at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.

The Navy has prepared this EA to evaluate potential impacts to the human and natural environment from implementing the proposed action in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Department of War, Department of the Navy, and NASA NEPA Implementing Guidelines.
