In-Person Public Meeting
The Navy released a Draft Environmental Assessment for public review and comment on Aug. 30, 2024. The Draft EA included an analysis of the potential environmental effects associated with conducting land-based training and testing activities within the Study Area.
The Navy held an open house public meeting during the Draft EA public review and comment period (Aug. 30 through Sept. 30, 2024). The purpose of the open house public meeting was to inform the public about the Proposed Action and the environmental assessment, answer questions, and accept comments on the Draft EA. While a public meeting is not required for an EA, the Navy held a meeting to maximize the public’s ability to participate in the National Environmental Policy Act process.
The meeting was held in an open-house format and included poster stations staffed by project representatives who provided information and answered questions from the public. The public could arrive at any time between 4 and 7 p.m., and the Navy provided a short presentation at 5:00 p.m. Additional details on the open house public meeting:
