The at-sea range within the MITT Study Area provides the air, sea, and undersea space necessary for training and testing. Range modernization and sustainment actions are necessary to support at-sea military readiness activities and new capabilities. Often new capabilities require modifications to the range to allow for full utilization of the new technology. Underwater instrumentation can improve the value of training or be used to collect scientific data. Placement of temporary training minefields allows Sailors to sharpen their skills and use the technologies needed to protect the free movement of ships and commerce.
