The Mariana Islands Range Complex’s at-sea range is vital in supporting military readiness. The range has unique attributes, including location, proximity to nearby installations, environment, infrastructure, and size, that make it an ideal setting for training military personnel and testing equipment and systems.

The Study Area has not changed from the 2020 environmental analysis and includes:

  • The at-sea areas of the Mariana Islands Range Complex;
  • Additional areas on the high seas north and west of the Mariana Islands Range Complex;
  • The transit corridor between the Mariana Islands Range Complex and the Hawaii Range Complex;
  • Pierside and harbor locations on Guam; and
  • The land-based training area on Farallon de Medinilla.

As was done in the 2020 Supplemental EIS, the analysis will not include changes to land-based activities on Guam, Saipan, Tinian, and Rota that were previously analyzed in 2015, and land-based activities on these islands will not be reanalyzed.

MITT Study Area

The Study Area has not changed from the 2020 MITT SEIS/OEIS.

Proposed training and testing activities are similar to those previously analyzed and are representative of activities conducted around the Mariana Islands for decades, with updates to the type, frequency, duration, intensity, and location.

This is an image of a map providing an overview of the Mariana Islands Training and Testing Study Area. The map is showing the MITT Study Area, including at-sea areas of the Mariana Islands Range Complex (MIRC); additional areas on the high seas north and west of the MIRC; and the transit corridor between the MIRC and the Hawaii Range Complex.
