The Supplemental EIS will include an analysis of the potential environmental effects associated with the continuation of military readiness activities within the MITT Study Area.

The development of the Supplemental EIS will help the Action Proponents meet their environmental compliance requirements while ensuring military readiness.

As part of the Supplemental EIS process, the Navy will seek the reissuance of an authorization under the Marine Mammal Protection Act and consultations under the Endangered Species Act to support at-sea military readiness activities within the Study Area beyond July 2027.

  • The development of the SEIS/OEIS will help sustain the readiness of Action Proponents by:
  • Supporting current and future training and testing requirements.
  • Increasing flexibility in conducting training and testing activities.
  • Modernizing and sustaining range capabilities.
  • Updating environmental effects analyses using the best available science and analytical methods.
  • Supporting Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) and Endangered Species Act consultations and reissuance of an authorization under the MMPA within the Study Area.
