'Stewards of the Sea' Exhibit 5-Year Anniversary

NORFOLK, Va. — The U.S. Fleet Forces Command (USFFC) sponsored 'Stewards of the Sea: Defending Freedom, Protecting the Environment' interactive exhibit at Nauticus in Norfolk, Virginia, marked its fifth year on display, March 13, 2019. The 1,000-square-foot dynamic exhibit, which is a partnership among the command, Nauticus, and the Hampton Roads Naval Museum, is an integral component of the U.S. Navy’s environmental outreach program.

U.S. Navy’s Environment Exhibit ‘Stewards of the Sea’ on Display at Wilmington Navy Week

NORFOLK, Va. — The U.S. Navy’s ’Stewards of the Sea: Defending Freedom, Protecting the Environment’ exhibit is scheduled to be on display at Wilmington Navy Week, April 5-7. Subject matter experts on the Navy’s environmental stewardship at sea will be available to talk with the media and the public at the exhibit.

Navy Announces Record of Decision for Growler Environmental Impact Statement​

NORFOLK, Va. — After carefully weighing the strategic, operational, and environmental consequences of the proposed action analyzed in the Growler Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), the U.S. Navy has made the decision to implement Alternative 2A (the Preferred Alternative), which adds 36 EA-18G operational aircraft at Naval Air Station (NAS) Whidbey Island, stations additional personnel and their family members at the NAS Whidbey Island complex and in the surrounding community, constructs and renovates facilities at Ault Field, increases airfield operations at both Ault Field and Outlying Landing Field (OLF) Coupeville, and changes the distribution of field carrier landing practice (FCLP) to 20 percent occurring at Ault Field and 80 percent occurring at OLF Coupeville.

Navy Provides Response to ACHP

NORFOLK, Va. — The Secretary of the Navy has responded to the comments from the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP). The Navy agrees with ACHP on a number of comments and plans to provide the National Park Service with funds ($887,000) to support Ferry House preservation, and to install historical interpretive signs within the Ebey's Landing National Historic Reserve.

Atlantic Fleet Training and Testing MMPA Regulations Amendment Request

NORFOLK — The National Marine Fisheries Service has received a request from the U.S. Navy to amend regulations authorizing the take of marine mammals incidental to Navy training and testing activities conducted in the Atlantic Fleet Training and Testing (AFTT) Study Area from November 2018 to November 2023 to cover seven years of the Navy's activities, instead of five.
